Talk about Melodrama. Lorde has apologized for comments she made in an interview with The Guardian published over the weekend that compared the difficulty of maintaining friendships with ultra-famous pals like Taylor Swift to having an “autoimmune disease.”
“It’s like having a friend with very specific allergies,” Lorde said in the interview. “There are certain places you can’t go together. Certain things you can’t do. There are these different sets of considerations within the friendship. It’s like having a friend with an autoimmune disease.”
Though the singer seemed to be trying to illustrate the limitations often forced upon those in the public eye, some took offense at the quote—and took to Twitter to let Lorde know. On Monday night, Lorde replied to one such Twitter user who referred to her fellow Swift squad member Selena Gomez, who has publicly revealed that she suffers from the chronic autoimmune disorder lupus.
“I wonder how @selenagomez feels about this,” wrote user @stefinitely85. “What an incredibly ignorant analogy to make @lorde.”
Lorde clarified that she never directly called out Swift in the interview, but an apology was warranted, nonetheless. She responded, “Didn’t mention Taylor, but regardless, I fucked up & that was really insensitive. I’m sorry [sic]”
Looks like the “Green Light” singer is ready to let this one go.
