Here’s Why Cersei’s Hair Is Still Short on ‘Game of Thrones’

Game of Thrones is arguably the most confusing show on television. Even the most diehard fans have trouble keeping up with the never-ending Rolodex of characters who pop in and out of Westeros. The fan theories online don’t exactly help clear up confusion, either. We have enough trouble remembering what’s actually happening on the show; bringing in hypotheticals and possibilities is just cruel!

But they’re so addicting—fan theories, that is—and the latest one causing an uproar is about Cersei’s short hair. The queen’s long, flowing locks were brutally cut during her walk of shame in season five. Understandably, this drastic change shocked fans—but even more shocking is the fact that her hair hasn’t grown back.

So what’s the deal? Characters’ appearances usually help gauge how much time has passed on a show, so the fact Cersei literally looks the same as she did two seasons ago is confusing. Some fans think Cersei is keeping the short hair so she’ll constantly remember what happened to her. Others think her head is stuck in some kind of weird time warp. (Hey, anything is possible on Game of Thrones.) I personally think Maggy, the woods witch, cast a spell on Cersei that prevents her hair from growing. Kidding.

As it turns out, none of these theories are correct. The real reason isn’t that deep: According to Game of Thrones producer Bryan Cogman, Cersei is keeping her hair short simply because she wants to, damn it.

“Queens can choose to style their hair short on your fave movies and TV shows,” he tweeted on Tuesday (August 1). See his message for yourself, below:

It’s pretty funny that the idea that Cersei’s short hair is just a style choice never dawned on fans. Perhaps this is a sign we need to stop looking so deeply into Game of Thrones. (We won’t.)
